UCSB Campus VPN

UCSB operates a VPN server to allow members of the UCSB community to access campus resources remotely.

When connected to the VPN, you are considered "on campus" by most UCSB servers, including library journals, file shares, and anything else that is restricted to campus network addresses.

Setup

  1. M1 (Apple Silicon) Macs only: You will need Rosetta2 installed. If you haven't installed it yet, open Terminal and run this command:
    /usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta
  2. Navigate to https://www.it.ucsb.edu/get-connected-vpn and download the appropriate client for your operating system. Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and ChromeOS are all supported, for reasonably recent versions.
  3. Follow the instructions in the Installation/Usage link for your OS.

Usage

This is covered in the Installation/Usage instructions, but it's generally pretty straightforward. Most of the clients come pre-configured with the UCSB Remote Access VPN; you just need to open the PulseSecure client, connect, and enter your UCSB Net ID and password.

Testing

You can double-check that the VPN is working by going to https://bb.noc.ucsb.edu/ip. If you're connected to the VPN, it should say "On-campus address."
